"We're partners in every sense," says Pam West, one half of design duo Frank. "We met at college and it just went from there," adds Matt Edmonds, the other half of the duo. This closeness is the secret of their success.
In 2001 Pam and Matt founded Frank design, inspired by the nuts and bolts of the city, of everyday infrastructure. "We want our furniture to be strange and 100% functional."
For the Opal range of tables they used wood - a big departure for them. "Walnut seems like a Heal's material," says Pam. "We've updated it by rounding the edges and topping the tables with beautiful coloured glass." 4 Fold is a multifunctional magazine rack. "It's a single sheet of metal with just four folds," explains Matt. "It's completely self-supporting - we use ours as a bedside table." While Mercury, is a book and CD shelf that has folds sized to perfectly fit a Penguin paperback. Strange, but very clever.
