Step by Step Guide to Heal's Interior Design Service
The first meeting to discuss the project takes place at the client's property. The designer gathers practical information regarding each room's usage, preferred style and how the design should reflect this. This meeting provides an opportunity to discuss furniture, colour schemes and lighting requirements, as well as budgets, time-scales and any special requirements.
All design plans are drawn up using a computer aided design package. The designer also creates a mood board for each room with product images and samples, giving the client a clear idea of themes and colour schemes proposed.
Once the designs have been completed the client is invited to the Design Studio in our Tottenham Court Road store. The designer will present the overall room scheme for approval.
The designer draws up an itemised estimate for the client. This is a comprehensive estimate that includes all fitting charges where applicable.
Once the estimate has been signed off the designer manages the entire project, making the process simple and stress-free for the client. This includes placing orders, communication with suppliers and supervising the ordering process and delivery schedules.
The Heal's Interior Design Studio charges a £200 fee per room. This fee is refunded when an order for £10,000 is placed. For large projects the client is supplied with a unique quotation for the entire design scheme. All designs will be released when an order for £3000(or more) is placed.
This central London apartment boasts stunning river-side views and the clients wanted shades of greys, blues and greens from the outside to be mirrored inside their home.
The guest bedroom has furniture from our Lignet Roset range, giving a bold and graphic look to the room, complemented by the Nador bed and Cineline bedside accessories. Heal’s Rule’s cushions, a ‘sixty lamp’ and a Marimekko throw give the superb contrast.
We have used turquoise in the TV bedroom with a comfortable Heal’s leather sofa bed and fun retro Ferm Living ‘remix’ and ‘apple’ cushions. The London rug from Tavistock Carpet at Heal’s.
In the master bedroom we selected a sheer curtain to give privacy but also to let in light and reveal the river views.
In the living room we selected soft furnishings to work with the clients existing furniture. The custom coloured rug links the greys to the warmer tones in the room and the curtain choice is inspired by the river.
Accessories, throws and cushions are from Heal’s fabric and bedding departments.

The brief for the design of this property was a comfortable and functional space that worked for a single person during the week but was suitable for the whole family when they visit London for occasional weekends.
Central London living requires perfectly proportioned furniture in order to maximise space efficiently. For the living and dining Space I selected made-to-measure pieces like the Book & Look range, a black lacquer shelving and AV unit by Roset, the Trapeze Dining Table, Ponton Occasional Table and Sala Chairs (all from Roset). These were all selected because they fit comfortably in the space. A bespoke rug from Heal's Carpets department and Solo Sofa Range completes the look. I designed all the window treatments throughout the flat including taking measurements and making fabric selection. Our Studio has long-standing relationships with the best curtain makers in London.
Customers often assume they can only purchase Heal's furniture but the Interior Design Studio is able to source products from other suppliers, which means we can always get exactly what the customer wants.
For the bedrooms I selected a Hulsta Mattress and the Heal's Natural Sleep Cashmere Mattresses and classic Heal's Luxury Egyptian 400 Thread Count linens. For the master bedroom the design had to create a relaxing atmosphere. The room gets a lot of light so I focused on lilacs and silver. For the guest bedroom I accessorised with hints of red including Aura Love Cushions, Mohair Red Throw and a Newgate Bullit Alarm Clock. The window treatments in the master and guest bedroom are fabrics and poles all selected from the Heal's Fabrics Department. With over 2000 fabrics on offer there is always a plethora of options. I selected fabrics from well known brands; Designers Guild, Osborne & Little, Jab, Sacho and Romo. The headboards in the guest bedroom were also bespoke made through the Design Studio.

This flat in the heart of London, is in an urban city location. It was furnished for a private client who was preparing the property for rental. Because the flat is in the city I wanted to create a home suitable for a professional. The look had to be classic contemporary, simple and stylish. This was achieved by focusing on greys and blacks with hints of bright red in the living and dining spaces. I wanted the scheme to play on different textures and tones so I selected the Antoinette Sofa in Varese velvet, Span Glass Coffee Table, Silver Shaggy Grey Rug and unique accessories like the Heal's Simple Silver Picture Frames and LSA Odile Red Glass Vase. The client selected a limited edition 1960s antique dressing table in rosewood. This fantastic Heal's antique fits in wonderfully with the contemporary furnishings in the flat.
The design scheme required a general appeal because the flat is being rented furnished. This was achieved through the choice of colour scheme and gender neutral colours making it chic and sophisticated, a true city style property. Throughout the project I worked in close contact with Daniel Watney Charter Surveyors, the agents for the flat. I also managed the delivery and fitting to the property to ensure that everything was finished to a high standard.
