To celebrate our bicentenary, at Whisky Mist in Mayfair, the book Heal’s 200 Years of Design and Inspiration was launched alongside phase one of Heal’s ReDiscovers bicentenary furniture collection.

After months of planning and ‘hush, hush’ details of the event it was very exciting to launch our bicentenary which was attended by leading members of the press and many members of the Heal’s extended family including Sir Terence Conran, Oliver Heal, designer Orla Kiely and John Reeves to name a few.

Guests were warmly welcomed to the event and got the opportunity to sip an exclusive Heal’s cocktail while we unveiled the book ‘Heal’s, 200 Years of Design and Inspiration’. The book traces the story of Heal’s from the company’s inception in 1810 to the present day. Each one of the cloth-bound, gilt edged copies has been numbered and hand-stamped with the company seal, ensuring it will become a collector’s item for design enthusiasts. These are sure to go fast, as we are only printing a limited 2,000 copies!

The party was also the unveiling of the first phase of Heal’s ReDiscovers, a limited edition, exclusive collection of furniture and accessories, by the best, established British designers, inspired by key pieces and periods in Heal’s 200 year history.

It was quite an exciting evening to see the first phase of ReDiscovers come together under the dim lights of the Whisky Mist. In the main room (Heal’s design manager for 12 years) John Jenkin’s beautifully crafted classic 4 Poster bed made of American walnut with a striking moss green canopy dominated the room. Complimenting this piece was the Slice storage system by Wales & Wales also made from black American Walnut, the ‘rediscovered’ and reissued handsome Hobart cast iron candle sticks by Robert Welch, the stunning Flow sofa by Kay + Stemmer and the handcrafted collection of cushions Knit by Donna Wilson.

In the Lux room Tom Dixon’s fluorescent Slab dining table and coffee table bought bold colour and sense of modernity to the occasion with Johnny Egg’s beautifully crafted sleek black lacquer and bright pink Vanity adding a sophisticated elegance.

Samples of all of the Rediscovers phase one collection are available to loan and cut out imagery is available on request. Phase two of the collection will launch in Spring 2010 and a third phase will launch in the Autumn.
