The American designer, Burgundy Applegate, studied furniture design at the Rhode Island School of Design before relocating to the UK in 2003. All of Applegate's work is handbuilt and finished by herself in her London workshop.

Inspired by Art Nouveau, Applegate incorporates this late 19th Century aesthetic in to her designs along with her love of traditional forms and subtle lines. Applegate has created the Geometry range exclusively for Heal's Dicovers, using a vinyl stencil and spray lacquer technique that she developed. This techinique consists of using sticky-backed vinyl and spray lacquer, cutting the vinyl into a one-use stencil and then spraying over it to give a layered, two-tone effect.

I’ve always loved the Heal’s heritage,’ she says, ‘the idea of surrounding yourself with furniture that functions well but is beautiful. People sometimes forget that design can achieve both – you don’t have to compromise.’
