Duvet Buying Guide

The tog rating relates to the duvet's ability to trap in warm air. The higher the tog rating, the warmer the duvet.

4.5 Tog - Lightweight - cool, ideal for summer.

9 / 10.5 Tog - Warm - medium warmth for spring / autumn.

4.5 Tog + 9 Tog = 13.5 Tog - Combination - 2 quilts that attach together giving 3 combinations. Suits all seasons, giving you flexibility and value.

When choosing a duvet for a child, we recommend a lighter weight duvet - either 4.5 or 9 tog. This is because children are smaller therefore the duvet traps more air, making it warmer. Please note that duvets and pillows are not recommended for children under 12 months.

Natural filled duvets have better thermal properties than synthetic. They maintain their insulating properties for longer - a good quality goose down duvet has a life expectancy of 40 years; duck down duvets can last 30-35 years and down and feather duvets last between 15-20 years. However the average life expectancy of a synthetic duvet is about 5 years (this is subject to the proper care of the duvet).

Natural filled duvets also tend to be softer, lighter and more comfortable. They are able to absorb body moisture lost in the night and then release it when the duvet is aired. Synthetic filled duvets do not have this breathable quality.

Natural filled duvets need less filling than synthetic to achieve the same level of warmth, so their weight can be deceptive. Down and feather from waterfowl possess natural insulation properties, making both an ideal filling for duvets. Goose down duvets provide the perfect warmth to weight ratio, resulting in a light weight duvet. Feather is thermally less efficient to down, therefore feather blend duvets will weigh slightly more than a pure down filling, to achieve the same degree of warmth.

Synthetic duvets are a good idea if you know you will want to wash your duvet regularly. Our duvets are non allergenic and anti dust mite. They are designed for exceptional loft, drape and recovery.
