With 'Made For You', you can match a new purchase to an existing colour scheme or use a patterned textile you've always loved to create upholstery that is 100% unique to you.
Heal's offers 22 sofa and 7 armchair styles with over 10,000 fabrics and leathers to choose from. Fabric books from all the major design houses are available in-store for you to make your selection. These include Designers Guild, Romo, Osborne & Little, Sanderson, Harlequin, Missoni and Kvadrat.
With experienced staff on hand to advise you on fabric choices and ensure a seamless service, you can be confident that your bespoke upholstery will be made exactly the way you want it.
Step by step
1. Stage 1 – Choose your shape
Select your preferred shape from the 29 styles of upholstery offered by Heal's as part of this service. Styles available are marked with the 'Made For You' symbol throughout the Heal's Look Book.
2. Stage 2 – Choose your fabric
Visit one of our stores and look through the extensive range of fabric books, with experienced staff members on hand to help and advise you. Swatches can be ordered and sent to your home.
3. Stage 3 – Add the finishing touches
Where relevant, you can select the colour of your sofa's feet and additional scatter cushions to perfectly complement your choice of fabric and create a look that is totally unique.

Casamance launched its first fabric collection for upholstery in 2000 and now creates several new collections every year. The brand’s exclusive contemporary motifs are instantly recognisable thanks to their meticulous workmanship and the subtlety of their colour combinations.
Cole & Son
Cole & Son has been making some of the world’s finest wallpapers since 1873. Many of the most important buildings in the world have rooms decorated with Cole & Son wallpaper, including the White House and Buckingham Palace. The company’s archive consists of approximately 1,800 block print designs, 350 screen print designs and a huge quantity of original drawings and wallpapers, representing all the styles from the 18th, 19th and early 20th centuries. Today the company brings the same exceptional standards to fabric design for upholstery.

Harlequin

Founded in 1999, Jocelyn Warner is a family run design studio based at the heart of East London's creative landscape. Jocelyn Warner products are genuinely craft-led, yet innovative with a sense of individuality not found in big manufacturers on the high street.
Kvadrat
Danish textile company Kvadrat has supplied the fabrics used in some of the world’s most iconic buildings, including the Guggenheim Bilbao, the Museum of Modern Art in New York and the Swiss Re tower (aka the Gherkin). Working with a number of high-profile designers, Kvadrat’s products combine a commitment to colour and simplicity with a clear desire to develop textiles based on innovation and experimentation in design.
Marimekko
Marimekko was established in Finland by Viljo and Armi Ratia in 1951. They commissioned young Finnish artists including Riitta Immonen and Vuokko Nurmesniemi to design a range of fabric prints for clothing and interior design, and from the success of these original designs, Marimekko continued to grow. Today, working with a ‘family’ of designers, Marimekko produces dozens of new fabric patterns each year and is known for its bold colours and original prints.
Mark Alexander
Mark Alexander offers exclusive and original textiles defined by their natural qualities, subtle designs and soft muted shades synonymous with understated luxury. The designs are eclectic in style, with subtle historical references and influences from traditional dyeing and weaving techniques. The palette is based on natural shades, mellow hues and earthy tones which complement the natural quality of the yarns, with occasional statement colours such as Indigo and Soft Aqua.
Missoni
Missoni fabrics are a vibrant blend of contrasting colours and textures that embody Italian spirit and design. Romo
Established in 1902, Romo is a family run business, based in Nottinghamshire. The highly respected fabric house is known for its innovative decorative weaves, imaginative wall coverings and elegant trimmings. Each design is meticulously developed from a simple pencil sketch through to a beautifully drawn artwork - or in certain cases inspirational archive documents are re-worked into imaginative new designs.
Sanderson
Founded by Arthur Sanderson in 1860, Sanderson enjoys an international reputation. The brand’s quintessentially English fabrics - often based on documents from its extensive archive - offer design innovation, exceptional quality and value for money. Sanderson celebrated its 150th birthday in 2010, making it the oldest surviving English brand in its field. Having been granted a Royal Warrant in 1923, the company still supplies fabrics and wallcoverings to HM Queen Elizabeth II and British Royal Palaces.
Tres Tintas
Barcelona-based Tres Tintas started out making printed wallpaper in 2004, but soon expanded into fabrics. Within five years they had a presence in 36 countries. Their designs are original, attractive and full of creative attitude.
Villa Nova
Founded in 1995, Villa Nova is a division of The Romo Group, with an entirely separate team of in-house designers responsible for the creation of an eclectic range of printed fabrics, decorative weaves, sheers and wallcoverings. Villa Nova has a distinctive signature colour palette incorporating an extensive variety of classic and contemporary shades that are creative but also easy to live with.
Zinc
A recent arrival on the fabrics scene, Zinc was launched in January 2010 as a sensational new brand that is strong, tactile and urban with playful, quirky undertones. Presented in a seductive monochromatic palette with hints of colour, the new Zinc fabric collections integrate luxury finishes, sumptuous texture and modern graphic design. All Heal’s stores have a selection of fabrics, with our Tottenham Court Road store holding the whole entire range.
How many sofa models are available to customise?
Over 22 sofas and 7 armchairs.
Can I upholster any sofa or armchair in Heal’s?
Unfortunately not all manufacturers allow customisation as it requires specific production processes which they may not be set up for. Heal’s can only offer the ‘Made For You’ bespoke upholstery service on sofas and armchairs whose manufacturers support customisation.
Can I reupholster a sofa or armchair from home?
Heal’s does not reupholster old sofas or armchairs and we can only upholster sofas and armchairs from our range, and only in a fabric that we carry.
Can I change the length of the sofa?
No, we have set sizes for all our furniture pieces.
Can I change the filling of the sofa back cushions?
Depending on the sofa chosen, we can contact the supplier to see if this is possible.
Can I choose the colour/type or legs on my sofa or armchair?
Legs come in set designs but colours can usually be selected from a range.
How do I choose the right fabric for my sofa or armchair?
Our sales team is on hand to guide and advise you on colour, texture and sizing that will appropriately suit your piece of furniture.
If you prefer, many suppliers offer a range of fabrics they have selected themselves in a wide range of textures and colours.
Are there any additional costs I should know about?
By UK law we are obliged to make sure everything we sell is fire retardant. There is sometimes an extra cost for adding back coating treatment or additional interline to fabrics in order to make them fire retardant. Please talk to a member of the sales team for more information.
Can I get fabric swatches before I purchase?
Yes, you can ask a member of the sales team to order you a swatch which will be sent directly to your home.
How long will it take to make and deliver?
Most bespoke upholstery pieces take between 10 and 14 weeks to be made and delivered. Lead times are subject to change but we will contact you if any unexpected schedule changes arise during production.
Can I use leather?
Yes you can, but only on certain ranges. Please speak to the sales team for more information.
What other items are available in my own choice of fabric?
A range of headboards, footstools and ottomans are all available for bespoke upholstering.
Can I order ‘Made For You’ online?
Due to the specific requirements of each order, we unfortunately cannot offer the bespoke upholstery service online. Please visit Heal’s in-store where a member of staff will be happy to assist you with your order.
