Jeremy Hutchison was trained in linguistics, wrote advertising for Coca-Cola in New York and is currently completing a Masters degree at London’s Slade School of Fine Art. The 30-year-old’s work encompasses a broad range of disciplines – from large-scale installations to performance. In 2008 he won the Alexandra Reinhardt Memorial Award.

Hutchison first collaborated with Heal’s in February 2010 when he took part in the UCL Slade School of Fine Art and Heal’s Artists In Residence project devising an art installation inspired by Ambrose Heal’s historic 1915 slogan, ‘Nothing Need Be Ugly'.

Building on the success of his installation, Hutchison teamed up with Heal’s to produce the Heal’s Rules collection, an exclusive range of accessories for the home. Witty and graphic, the collection is based on the concept that every corner of the British home is governed by regulations, with each household item telling you how you ought to behave. Teacups inform you that ‘Tea should jolly well come with a saucer’, bowls tell you, ‘Don’t blow your soup’ and bed cushions warn: ‘No talking after lights out’.

‘I love the idea of a household object starting a conversation,’ Hutchison explains, ‘because some of the slogans are quite controversial. “Tea first milk second”, for example, can spark off a lively debate.’
