Marimekko was established in Finland in 1951 by Viljo and Armi Ratia. In 1951, Armi Ratia, commissioned young Finnish artists including Riitta Immonen and Vuokko Nurmesniemi to design a range of fabric prints for clothing and interior design. From the success of these original designs, Marimekko continued to develop, widening their range of products and collaborating with both students and leading designers
Designed by Sanna Annukka, Marimekko's new Kukkuluuruu pattern has been inspired by the wise forest animals of Finnish folk tales.
