"...good design is not over designed and functionality is king."

The foundation of Orla Kiely's career began at Dublin's National College of Art, continuing her studies she gained a MA from the Royal College of Art, London. Her career has since been punctuated with some pivotal moments, including sitting on the Dulux Design Council and designing two capsule collections for the Tate Museum. Orla Kiely was also awarded the Tatler Irish Women of the Year for Design in 2005.

Orla Kiely is not just a designer - the brand itself is continually growing. Launched in the 1990's, originally starting out as a small bag collection at a time when fashion was black and conceptual, the bright colour and striking patterns Orla Kiely offered were a refreshing alternative to women longing for design with energy. Over the following decade, the brand has expanded offering a complete ready-to-wear women's line, accessories and homewares.

Colour, pattern, graphic control, texture and rhythm are the centre of Orla Kiely's collection, continually reworking every item created with all pieces designed by Orla herself. Kiely's philosophy is "good design is not over designed and functionality is king", and her success can be attributed to developing an instantly recognisable design language, such as her signature stem print; this design can be found on a variety of products from bags to mugs, bedlinen to furniture, many of which are available at Heal's.

Orla Kiely continues to dominate interior design, women's wear and homeware with a number of awards and accolades to her name, including nomination for the Elle Deco Awards for Own Label Homes Collection, 2005 Tatler Irish Women of the Year for Design and Two UK Fashion Export Awards. Orla Kiely at Heal's includes furniture, wallpaper and bedlinen through to home fragrance and her newly introduced sunglasses.
