Thirty years ago, the face of Dutch furniture design changed, courtesy of Gerard Van den Berg. Stepping away from traditional solid wood furniture from the Netherlands, he looked to other materials and upholstery techniques - resulting in Dutch design mirroring the styles and changes associated with Italy and Denmark.

Inspired by his father’s furniture making company, Van den Berg began an apprenticeship. Combining particular attention to technical perfection with his natural curiosity, creativity and sense of adventure he became a visionary furniture designer.

Gerard Van den Berg designed furniture for his father until founding Montis with his brother Ton in 1974. Later, in 1991 Van den Berg set up the company LABEL, carrying forward the earlier success and prestige of Montis.

Gerard Van den Berg has many awards and accolades to his name, including the Kho Liang Award 1984, the Mobilia Innovation Award 1990, the Interior Decoration Award 1991, and Best Dutch Furniture Design Award in both 1984 and 1997.
