John Reeves

John Reeves was born in 1981 in Burnley, Lancashire and studied at Northumbria University where he gained a BA (Hons) in Furniture and 3D Design in 2003. In the same year of graduation Reeves established his own furniture company REEVESDesign Ltd.

2004 was the year Reeves began in earnest to make his name in the world of design - it began with being picked as a finalist of the Heal's Discovers 2004, with the Louis Console table being the most successful piece in the collection. Since this time, Heal's have been working with Reeves on various projects resulting in several exclusive pieces of furniture for Heal's, including the Louis range. Louis as a design was born from traditional design, Reeves took the humble turned leg and simply split it into quarters revealing a striking profile, combining old traditions with modern ideas and processes, as he states "The inspiration for this was not only literal, in splitting the turned leg, but also metaphorical by splitting the past open to form a new idea."

The Louis range has been celebrated by critics and press alike, the crowning glory being the Louis Console Table winning the Elle Decoration Future Classic Award in September 2006.

Whilst simultaneously working on REEVESdesign, Reeves took the position of Product Developer and Design Consultant, living and working in Vietnam for Julian Chichester Designs. The change of culture gave Reeves the accessibility to many new materials and processes - working with ceramics, lacquers and zinc, Reeves is constantly developing new ranges and techniques.

John Reeves has already received several awards and accolades, including Winner of the 2006 Elle Decoration Design Awards, Future Classic - Louis Console Table , a Finalist in Heal's Discovers 2004 and Classic Design of the Year Award 2006 in association with the Victoria & Albert Museum, London.
